Regain Balance and Choose to Create

Amidst the cacophony of information, events and activities today, it is easy to be knocked off balance, become overwhelmed and react out of fear or anger.

Constant reactivity generates a downward spiral until we burnout internally or flameout externally.

Many leaders I work with reach a state of exhaustion and search for what to do next. I offer them simple practices to pause and observe their habit nature in the midst of complexity.

By pausing and self-observing we create openings to regain our balance, again and again and again. As we do, choices emerge:
  • Do I pause to stabilize and then continue as I was before?
  • Or, do I consolidate and integrate what there is to learn, developing myself to create new possibilities toward a greater purpose?

We all benefit by interrupting downward cycles of reactivity, fear and anger, to create upward spirals toward a common purpose.

At this Fall Equinox, where the earth’s axis is vertical relative to the sun’s rays, when day and night reach a momentary equilibrium and we pause between seasons, it is an opportunity for reflection:
  • What practices help me pause reactive downward spirals and regain my balance?
  • With fresh equilibrium, how do I develop to create anew with those around me?

I help leaders and teams regain their balance, develop and create new possibilities.

Amidst rising unrest, now is a time to pause reactivity, develop ourselves and create anew!

People often ask what I do, and when I respond that I’m a Team Leadership Coach the conversation can stop with a lot of unanswered questions if I don’t continue.

What I really do is help people find the path forward that’s right for them. We start with where they are, with all the complexity, uncertainty and challenges they face.

We identify and envision what extraordinary outcomes might look like in six months to a year. Often that can be summed up with I’m a Clear, Confident Leader acting with Presence and Resilience, Creating New Possibilities and Building Innovative Teams that Achieve.

Then we set to work. We use real life situations to uncover the strengths they have to build upon, and the patterns that hold them back. I provide curated resources to develop new perspectives. We design safe experiments to try out new ways of thinking, being and acting. We agree upon pragmatic practices to build new competencies.

It is a journey of learning and discovery that is energizing as progress emerges.

What’s the difference between reading a book, listening to a podcast or taking a course and working with me. My clients tell me it’s that I help them find the right path for them.

I assist teams and leaders create new possibilities and improve team effectiveness, while developing team leadership and coaching skills. If you’d like to find the right path for you, visit here.

Let Go of Being an Expert

Have you ever stopped yourself from doing something because you’re not an expert?

It shows up in surprising ways:
  • I was never good at …
  • I don’t know how to …
  • Other people know more/are better at … than I am.
  • If only other people saw me as an expert, I’d be okay.
  • And one of my favorites, If I just learn one more thing, then I’ll be ready.

As we grow in our professions and lives, we create stories about needing to have the answers before we step into new situations. In doing so we create a threshold to cross before we’ll start, that prevents us from beginning.

We forget that expertise is an outcome of exploring, learning, practicing, and continuous improvement. Achieving a level of mastery is the acknowledgment of progress made, not an end.

We come into this world as beginners, full of curiosity and a willingness to discover what’s possible. This beginner’s mindset is one to keep coming back to throughout our lives. When we let go of being an expert and explore the possibilities, we make progress instead of barriers.

I assist teams and leaders to create new possibilities, and improve team effectiveness while developing team leadership and coaching skills. To learn more visit here.

What Is There To Learn Now

I work with many leaders as a leadership development coach, and our conversations often start with what’s not working in their current situations.

Using this image as context, the story could be its cold and stormy, the path ahead is slippery and uneven, our project is behind and I need a solution to get there now. The tension is heavy often weighing people down.

When we feel the pressure of a situation weighing upon us, we can unconsciously react with patterns we have used throughout our lives:
  • I’ll take control and drive things forward to get us there once again.
  • I’ll look for ways to distance and protect myself, and prove why I’m not responsible.
  • I’ll comply and go along with what’s happening.

An alternative is to consciously stop and consider what is there to learn now?

Here are some powerful questions to consider:
  • What outcomes would I like to see happen?
  • How are my reactions getting in my way?
  • What do I care about creating for myself and those around me?
  • How do I/we consciously learn and grow as we respond to this situation?

When we unconsciously react with past patterns, we reinforce the habitual grooves we’ve built through our lives. When we pause to reflect and learn we open the possibility for transforming the outcomes and ourselves.

I work with teams and leaders to create better results through the conscious practice of leadership. Let’s create a better future today!

A Clear Confident Leader engages, inspires, and assists people to develop themselves, enabling them to create new possibilities and a better future today.
